The live session will then be an open forum in which we, students and tutor alike, can discuss responses to and interpretations of the text.
‘Beyond the Beyond’ Adult learning
One weekly, hour long session based on challenging and rewarding extracts of literature
This will cater for any adults who might wish to revisit their love of literature, or those willing to stimulate their thinking with new discoveries in literature. This might appeal to those who feel they somewhat ‘missed out’ first time round with their literature, or just have a genuine passion for the subject. The extract of text will be provided once people have signed up. You can prepare thoughts and responses in readiness for the session. The live session will then be an opportunity to discuss ideas and thoughts in an open forum.
‘Philosophy for children’- For year 5 and year 6 students
One weekly, hour long session focusing on critical thinking skills and ability to formulate argument and debate.
The topic for the week, such as, ‘is it better to be happy and ignorant, rather than wise and miserable’? will be provided once students have signed up. Students will be expected to prepare their responses to the motion or debate topic, in order to present their ideas in the session. Schools and indeed employers are increasingly looking for this ability to think critically and engage analytically with the world- a highly recommended skill to learn.
